There are so many creators out there making dope stuff in their free time, not for money, but to just make other people's lives better. Easy to access #FOSS includes #firefox , #signal , #NextCloud , #Fastmail ... just to name a few.
The people who maintain these things aren't taking data without your consent (or any for that matter). And they aren’t keeping the info on how their programs works secret because there isn’t the perverse drive to monopolize power and information.

Experiencing an #Heisenbug again. Been a while since the last. If you're not familiar with it? It''s a bug that instantly disappears when you're looking at it with debugging tools. Background: #signal is crashing, with a buffer overflow, but it runs stable if I start it with "strace signal-desktop" :-)

PSA for anyone using signal groups to organize during protests
tl;dr: please check that both options in settings > privacy > phone number are set to "nobody"
if "who can find me by my number" is "everyone" (the default), signal will reveal the association of your account and number to group members who already know your number, which, considering the possibility of schools collaborating with police and providing student info, may or may not be a plausible way to de-anonymize you!

En 2024, lorsque l'on veut mettre à jour #Signal sur son #LinuxMint, on considère encore que les utilisat·eurs·rices sont des geeks barbus...
C'est pourtant pas si compliqué de proposer un .sh avec ces lignes de commandes qu'on a juste à lancer...
De plus, ce passage n'est pas traduit, ce qui rend l'accessibilité aux non #GeeksBarbus difficile !

#Signal meint dass auf einer leeren 64GB Speicherkarte keine Backup erstellt werden kann, weil zu wenig Speicherplatz vorhanden ist?
Die App selbst hat knapp 4,5 GB
Was kann hier der Fehler sein?
Hatt es auch schon bei 16GB, 32 GB und 8GB Speicherkarten (alle leer und frisch formatiert).
Würde gerne Signal übersiedeln von einem Nokia 3.1
